Women’s Peace and Security/Humanitarian Intern at UN Women

Duties and Responsibilities
Learning Objective:

  • Develop an understanding of UN Women’s work and the UN system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the conduct of gender assessments and analysis
  • Assist in the organization of consultative meetings, trainings, campaigns and peer-learning visits
  • Assist in writing meeting minutes, mission and training reports
  • Support the development of Conflict Analysis, Mediation & Negotiation Training Tools
  • Facilitate the documentation of human-interest stories and best practices
  • Provide input to briefs, policy updates and strategic documents on WPS and HA
  • Contribute to the exchange of information and knowledge products internally and externally
  • Participate in inter-agency coordination committees and working groups
  • Monitor the implementation of WPS and HA projects

Required Skills and Experience
Education:

  • The intern must have completed university studies (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in International Relations, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, or similar study areas
  • Be enrolled in a graduate-school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Eligibility

  • Applicants to the  internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English is required.

Experience:

  • No work experience is required
  • Some knowledge and experience in events coverage, organizing events and/or training, media relations and/or advocacy campaigns, using traditional and social media will be an asset
  • Some experience in graphic design (Adobe suite) and creating communication materials will be an added advantage
  • Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, Power Point

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women.
